In 1928, the brothers received a patent for spikes, developed jointly with Joseph Weitzer. These spikes were first introduced at the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, where one of the athletes wearing factory shoes won the first gold medal for Germany in athletics and set a new world record.
Success continued at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, where German runner Artur Jonath placed third in the 100m, also wearing Dassler shoes. This success became the starting point for an advertising campaign.
