Big Star was founded in 1979 in Switzerland by the Faye brothers Edwin, Lauren and Walter. Their first pair of jeans was made the same year. In 1981, brand stores appeared in Germany, the Netherlands and France. However, in the last two countries, the brand functioned under the name Gap Star, and only in 1993 independently entered the market under the name G-Star.
In 1990, Polish entrepreneurs Bogdan Kaczmarek and Wieslaw Kostera opened an office in Kalisz to carry out export activities in Belarus, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Lithuania. A year later, in 1991, Big Star production began in Kalisz.
In 1994, the Polish-Swiss company Joint Venture Big Star Limited was established. And in 1995, Big Star Limited OJSC was founded, focused on Poland and other European countries.
In 2003, the brand tried to change its logo. And in 2007, Bogdan Kachmarek and Veslav Kostera acquired 100% of the company's shares.
In 2010 Big Star was recognized as the most popular jeans brand in Poland. And in 2011, the first Shoes & Accessories Big Star store was opened.
For 21 years of active work, the brand has opened 188 branded stores and 12 outlets throughout Poland. Big Star is a Polish brand that began its journey in 1970, when the Fae brothers from Switzerland brought jeans bought in Paris to their hometown of Basel. They had an original cut and were different from the classic denim jeans. The brothers sold them very quickly and decided to start their own project.
Encouraged by their success, Edwin, Laurin, and Walter Fae began buying jeans at flea markets, processing them, and reselling them under their brand name, which they came up with, Big Star. In 1978, the Fae family bought a textile factory and opened several denim stores in Switzerland and France, and in 1979 the brand entered the market.
By the early 1980s, there were already 20 Big Star outlets operating with a turnover of 20 million Swiss francs. In the 1990s, the company became one of the largest denim clothing companies in Europe. The brand offered not only trendy jeans, but also casual wear for men, women and children in more than 30 countries around the world.
In 1990, the brand's products began to be imported to Poland by the Helvepol company, owned by Bogdan Kaczmarek and Wieslaw Kostera. In 1994 they formed a joint venture with Big Star Holding AG and named it Big Star Limited. The company, located in the Polish city of Kalisz, began to produce clothes for Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Belarus.
In 2004, Big Star products were sold in more than 200 stores in Eastern Europe and brought in about PLN 10 million.
