Ask about sizingHow American footwear differs from European
American shoemaking is still stereotyped as thick-soled work boots. In practice, US labels now cover four separate territories: skate and street sneakers, running and training shoes, welted handmade dress footwear, and utility boots built for hard conditions.
The practical difference is the last. American brands traditionally cut it wider through the forefoot and deeper through the instep than Italian or Polish makers. A wide foot will often sit better in a US model than in a European pair of the same nominal size. The second difference is labelling: US manufacturers mark shoes in the US system, so the size has to be converted to EU before ordering.
In the N-SHOES catalogue, American labels are concentrated in sneakers and skate shoes. Below: what is in stock, how to pick the size, and what to expect from each construction.
The short version
- US size ≠ EU size: the gap runs up to 1–1.5 sizes
- A wider last helps if your foot is broad
- Vulcanised soles flex; cupsoles hold their shape
- Suede and nubuck need protector before the first wear
- Insole length in centimetres is listed on every product page

DC Shoes
Californian skate footwear label founded in 1994. In stock: men's sneakers and skate shoes in genuine suede and nubuck, gum rubber sole around 3 cm, round toe, flat heel, sizes 41–46. Unlined models built for warm weather and the transitional seasons.
Reebok
Boston-headquartered brand that moved well beyond the fitness segment years ago. N-SHOES carries everyday and training models: stable heel hold, cushioned midsole, classic silhouettes that work equally well in the gym and in the city.
Other US labels
Selected New Balance, Timberland, Columbia and Wolverine models can be brought in to order when the supplier has your size. Lead time from 7 working days. To check a specific model, message us through the contact form with the article number and size.
Sole constructions and what each one is for
| Construction | How it is built | Best for | Repairability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vulcanised | Rubber bonded to the upper under heat and pressure | Skating, city wear, board feel underfoot | Moderate |
| Cupsole | Moulded rubber cup with the upper glued inside | Everyday wear, longer service life | Low |
| Goodyear welt | Upper, welt and sole stitched together | Dress and utility footwear, wet season | High — resoled 2–3 times |
| Cemented | Upper glued directly to the sole | Lightweight transitional models | Low |
| Moc toe | Moccasin build with a hand-stitched toe | Work and casual boots | High |
Converting US sizes to Ukrainian
Go by insole length, not by the number on the box. Measure your foot in the evening, standing, from heel to longest toe, then add 0.5 cm of clearance. Compare that figure with the insole length on the product page.
Men's sizes
| US | EU / UA | Insole, cm |
|---|---|---|
| 8 | 41 | 26.0 |
| 8.5 | 42 | 26.7 |
| 9.5 | 43 | 27.3 |
| 10 | 44 | 28.0 |
| 11 | 45 | 28.7 |
| 12 | 46 | 29.3 |
Women's sizes
| US | EU / UA | Insole, cm |
|---|---|---|
| 5.5 | 36 | 23.0 |
| 6.5 | 37 | 23.5 |
| 7.5 | 38 | 24.3 |
| 8.5 | 39 | 25.0 |
| 9.5 | 40 | 25.7 |
| 10 | 41 | 26.3 |
Note. These figures are averages. Skate shoes with a dense insole usually fit tighter than running shoes of the same size, and fur-lined winter models are worth taking one size up. If you are unsure, send us your foot length in centimetres and we will match the size to the specific model.
What to take for the job at hand
Everyday city wear
Low sneakers on a rubber sole with a suede or nubuck upper. They hold their shape, clean up easily and work with jeans and chinos.
Gym and training
Trainers with a locked-in heel and a firm midsole. Flat soles suit lifting; running calls for cushioning instead.
Skate and street
Vulcanised sole, reinforced lacing area, suede where wear happens. This is the segment American labels cover best.
Work and wet weather
Welted boots on a thick sole in heavy leather. They can be repaired and will last several seasons.
Preparing a new pair before the first wear
Order matters: protector applied to a dirty or damp surface works worse and leaves marks.
Brush off dry
Lift dust from suede with a crepe or brass brush; wipe smooth leather with a soft cloth.
Dry at room temperature
No radiator, no hairdryer. Stuff with plain paper, not newspaper — printing ink transfers to the lining.
Apply protector
Two thin coats, 20 minutes apart. Aerosol for suede, wax-based cream for smooth leather.
Leave 24 hours to cure
Only then wear them out. Repeat every 2–3 weeks through the active season.

What customers ask most
Is the footwear at N-SHOES authentic?
Yes. We work with official suppliers, and every pair carries factory marking and the manufacturer's box. Documentation for a batch is available on request.
Do American models run small?
It depends on the construction. Skate shoes with a dense insole usually fit tighter, while fur-lined winter models are worth taking one size up. Every product page lists insole length — that is the most reliable reference.
Can I try shoes on before buying?
In Kharkiv, yes, at our offline store. Elsewhere, the 14-day exchange applies as long as the shoes have not been worn.
How long does a made-to-order model take?
From 7 working days when the supplier has your size. We confirm the exact lead time after checking the specific article number.
