Cyber Monday falls on the Monday after Thanksgiving in the United States, when online stores cut prices across the catalogue. The date moves between November 26 and December 2, because Thanksgiving lands on the fourth Thursday of November. The 2025 sale ran on December 1, the 2026 one falls on November 30, and the 2027 one on November 29.
The day earned its "cyber" prefix from the sales channel: discounts work online only. Back in 2005 Americans returned from the long weekend to offices with fast internet and bought what they had missed in shopping malls on Black Friday. Retailers spotted the spike in their statistics and turned it into a separate shopping holiday.
Ukraine picked up the format as e-commerce grew. Here both sales run mostly online, so the line between them blurs and stores stretch discounts across the whole Cyber Week.

History
How Cyber Monday grew from a press release into a global sale
2005
Shop.org, a division of the US National Retail Federation, published a press release about a new peak in online sales. The trigger came from 2004 data: 77% of online retailers recorded a jump in orders on the Monday after Thanksgiving. The working name "Black Monday" was dropped because it pointed straight at the 1987 stock market crash.
2006–2009
The holiday ran on office internet: most American homes still had slow connections, so people shopped from their desks. Store websites buckled under the traffic, and retailers put money into servers, waiting rooms and page load speed.
2010–2015
The format left the United States. Canada, the United Kingdom, Brazil and European markets launched their own Cyber Monday. Stores added free shipping as the main argument, and clothing and footwear deals started to compete with electronics.
2016–2019
Shoppers moved to smartphones, and the sale stretched into five days known as Cyber Week. In 2019 Americans spent $9.4 bn in a single day, almost 20% more than a year earlier.
2020–2021
The pandemic pushed offline-only shoppers into e-commerce: $10.8 bn in 2020. The following year the market slipped to $10.7 bn, its first decline, as stock shortages and early November discounts spread demand out.
2022–2025
Four records in a row. Cyber Monday 2025 brought $14.25 bn and became the biggest online shopping day in US history. Discounts, buy now pay later plans and AI shopping assistants lifted the whole Cyber Week to $44.2 bn.
