It is worth remembering that leather shoes are one of the most ancient types of shoes known to mankind, and for good reason. This is due, in particular, to the fact that genuine leather is an excellent material that has natural breathable pores in its structure, thanks to which it perfectly regulates temperature. Therefore, it is ideal for warm days, keeping the feet dry. This type of gas exchange is also particularly important in sweating. Leather shoes allow our skin to transfer excess heat to the outside, so the foot sweats less inside. This, in turn, reduces the risk of bacteria and fungi developing inside the shoes, which cause bad odor and can be harmful to our health. In addition, leather shoes are simply comfortable and have the ability to naturally adapt to the foot. It is also undeniable that high-quality leather is not only attractive to the eye, but, above all, is resistant to time and external factors, in addition, it ages beautifully and acquires a noble patina with age, which only adds to its style.
Skin has more than one name
Some time ago, the number of available styles of leather shoes was severely limited by technological capabilities. Today, modern shoe manufacturers can offer their customers a huge selection of different types of shoes. It is worth remembering that in addition to the variety of models, in the case of this type of shoe, we can also deal with different types of leather used in its production. The most popular type is grained leather, which is used to make shoes that are smooth, durable and stain resistant. They are ideal for autumn and winter, because they are not afraid of snow, rain or mud. Rough leathers such as suede, velour, or nubuck are also very fashionable. Contrary to appearances, they are not the same thing. Suede is a soft and absorbent tanned leather that does not have a face. Velor is a type of suede that is much more resistant to damage than nubuck, while nubuck is tanned soft leather that has been buffed and polished. A little less often, the type of skin is chosen - elegant lacquered models. These are usually formal shoes that cannot be worn every day because they deform and scratch quickly.
How to care for leather shoes
Leather shoes should be cared for all year round, but special attention should be paid to care in the autumn-winter season. At this time, they are especially susceptible to moisture, dirt, as well as various types of salt and road chemicals. Leather shoes require careful cleaning and impregnation. They cannot be washed by hand or in a washing machine. Any contamination such as dirt and sand is best removed with a soft shoe brush or a slightly damp cloth. For smooth leather, we use beeswax pastes or creams that moisturize the material, give it a beautiful shine and protect it from harmful weather conditions. Sprays work well for rough skin. When applied evenly, they can even reduce discoloration, protect shoes from getting wet and dust settling on them. It is also worth remembering that both in the process of cleaning and in the process of restoring the color of suede shoes, you will need a special brush, which, when cleaning, will help you get to all contaminated fibers, and when restoring color, it will help distribute and penetrate the pigment.
