CheckoutOffice party
An office or corporate party is an informal event a company organises for its staff, often for New Year or a professional holiday. Formats vary: a restaurant dinner, a celebration in the office, an out-of-town trip or a themed party. The format sets the dress code and therefore the choice of shoes.
Dress codes
Casual and smart casual allow loafers, moccasins and neat sneakers. Cocktail means cocktail dresses and suits with pumps or ankle boots. Black tie calls for evening gowns and tuxedos, classic pumps and black oxfords. White tie is the strictest code, with tailcoats and floor-length gowns, and is rare at office parties.
Heels
A kitten heel is a low slim heel, usually 3–5 cm. A block heel is a wide, stable heel of any height. A stiletto is a slim high heel: striking, but the least suitable for long dancing. For a long evening, stylists recommend a stable medium heel.
Shoe etiquette
In classic menswear, black smooth or patent oxfords go with a tuxedo, and oxfords or derbies matching the belt go with a suit. Women's evening shoes need not repeat the dress colour; they are matched to the bag or accessories. New Year is a time for texture: velvet, patent and metallic shades.
After the party
Clean the party pair of dust and marks, cream and buff smooth leather, and brush suede. Shoes exposed to salt or snow are dried at room temperature with paper stuffing and stored with shoe trees in a box.
