CheckoutHow to choose boots for every day: what you need to pay attention to
It is better to buy winter shoes in advance, without waiting for the cold weather. If you stand on a frosty street, and then go into a warm storeroom, you can make a mistake with the size of shoes during fitting. In the cold, fluid circulates in the body very slowly and the feet are slightly smaller. Because of this, the shoe sits looser both in length and width. If you try on shoes on frozen feet, there is a high risk of choosing boots that will not be possible to wear when the feet return to their normal size in the warmth.

What to look for when choosing a material
Genuine leather is the best option for everyday wear. It is soft and thin, but strong and durable. Genuine leather boots can be worn for 3-5 years and it will look like new. This material retains heat much better and allows the feet to feel comfortable at any temperature.
Modern leatherette is difficult to distinguish from genuine leather both in appearance and touch. Its main advantage is its price. Faux leather is much cheaper. But it quickly loses its attractive appearance and often cracks in the cold. Therefore, these boots are only suitable for mild climates.
An alternative to leather and leatherette is suede and nubuck. These materials are very beautiful, but their main disadvantage is getting wet. Water is destructive for them, it will hopelessly ruin the appearance of the boots and significantly reduce their service life. But in dry weather, suede or nubuck boots are a great addition to a coat or raincoat.
Outsole and zip
During fitting, the sole must be carefully inspected. It can be sewn on and glued. In fact, any sole is processed with glue, but the sewn-on sole additionally protects the seam. Strong thread ensures that the outsole does not flake off. If it is held only by glue, it can come off even if the boots are in the box after purchase. The glue can dry out and the boots will become unusable.
The sole is made from different materials:
- polyvinyl chloride,
- rubber,
- polyurethane,
- skin.
When trying on a boot, you need to make sure that it flexes easily while walking. Too thick and dense sole can burst. The choice of heel height depends on individual preference. But when it comes to winter shoes, you need to take into account not only a comfortable fit on the leg, but also the effect of cold weather. The height of the sole should be at least 1 cm so that the feet do not freeze.
Lightning is the most vulnerable spot. During the fitting, it needs to be unbuttoned and fastened several times to check how smoothly it moves. On winter shoes, the zipper should be on the side. If it is in the back, it will very quickly fall into disrepair. After the zipper, you need to check the lining. It is best when they are made from natural fur. This lining will keep you warm, and your feet won't sweat in these shoes. Natural fur can be distinguished by touch. When pressed, it quickly straightens, and between the villi, examine the skin. If the lining is fabric, the fur is artificial.
If the boots are fastened with lacing, it is better to choose a model in which it starts from the toe. This lacing allows you to fix the boot on your leg. Reliable fixation is especially important if you have to walk on snow for a long time, and even more so, ice.

Accessories for winter shoes
Any decorations on winter shoes can be a problem. The fittings come off easily, and this spoils the shoes. If you want to choose boots with embellishment, it is better to pay attention to the sewn-on details. They are attached more reliably than glue ones. Large jewelry will be pulled back by its own weight and deform the shoe. Therefore, the best option is small flat decorations. Embroidery is a good option.
When choosing winter shoes, first of all, you need to focus on comfort and convenience. High-heeled boots are beautiful, but too traumatic for the cold season. Shoes with flat soles and small heels can also be beautiful and stylish, and most importantly, they are safe.
